Debonairs Pizza has once again hit the headlines – this time we claimed 8th overall and 1st in the Fast Food category in the annual Ask Afrika Orange awards. The awards have been held annually for the past 11 years and are considered to be the premier service-related award in the country. Over 11 000 people are interviewed and over 92 companies are measured across a variety of services from banking, cellular, retail, insurance, etc. It is a massive achievement, especially considering the competition we are up against. Debonairs pizza ranked ahead of Chicken Licken, KFC, Nando’s and McDonalds in the Fast Food category and was only upstaged by the likes of Capitec Bank, Woolworths Food, MTN, Pick ‘n Pay, Woolworths Clothing, Vodacom and Multichoice.
The First Pizza drive thru in Africa - 19th May 2011, Springs
Debonairs Pizza has made history yet again with the opening of the Debonairs Pizza Springsgate Drive Thru, the first pizza drive thru in Africa. Invited guests were treated to a “marigold and black” carpet entrance and enjoyed the drive thru experience in chauffeured driven golf carts.
The Debonairs Pizza Drive Thru offers ‘on-the-go’ convenience, providing customers with a quality pizza experience in less than 2 minutes. The menu offers customers a choice of their five favourite pizzas hot and fresh, without the wait. If customers require a full Debonairs Pizza menu offering, they can park their cars and order from inside the restaurant.
“In 2010 we celebrated the opening of our 300th restaurant and now we are celebrating the opening of the first Debonairs Pizza drive thru. It truly has been an extraordinary journey starting in the back of a bakery in Pietermaritzburg 20 years ago and I am excited to see what we will launch next,” said Derrian Nadauld, Managing Executive, Debonairs Pizza.
Franchisee and owner of other Famous Brands franchises, George Nicolaides commented: “We are putting Springs on the map and it is rewarding to know that we are making history in a positive way while growing the brand. We look forward to serving our customers the pizzas that they love, without having to get out of their cars.”
Being first to market in the South African pizza category is not new to Debonairs Pizza. As the pioneers of Free Delivery* within the pizza market, Debonairs Pizza introduced consumers to the benefits and convenience of having hot and fresh pizza delivered to their doors. Additionally, they were first to launch the ‘Hot or Not dot”, which visually guarantees a hot and fresh pizza. Debonairs Pizza is also recognised as the leader in product and technology development and is consistently first to market with cutting edge innovations such as their mobile and internet ordering solution, allowing customers to order their favourite Debonairs Pizza from their cell phone or computer.
Besides delivery options, Debonairs Pizza also stays relevant with creative menu offerings such as the Triple-Decker®, Crammed-Crust®, Pizza-Filla® and their newest innovation, Pizza Pop-Itz.
It is not surprising that the outstanding success of Debonairs Pizza has been recognised with awards and accolades from consumers to prestigious marketing institutions to stringent food industry watchdogs.

Debonairs Pizza opens 300th Restaurant - June 2010
It was a spectacular occasion when on the 3rd of June 2010 a host of Durban's celebrities gathered to celebrate the launch of Debonairs Pizza's 300th restaurant. The representation and support from KZN's media, social, sporting and business fraternity certainly is testament to why Debonairs Pizza is considered to be 'SA's Favourite'.
With South Africa's leading pizza restaurant having come a long way since it first opened its doors from the back of a bakery 19 years ago - it was a fitting and apt occasion that saw both of these milestones having taken place in KZN!
Joined by the eThekwini Deputy Mayor Logie Naidoo, founder Craig McKenzie and franchisees Gavyn Hough and Chris Farrant, Debonairs Pizza, The Pavilion, was officially opened by Derrian Nadauld - The Managing Executive of Debonairs Pizza. Debonairs Pizza brand ambassador and soccer legend Doctor Khumalo was also present to mark this significant milestone and assisted the Deputy Mayor in cutting the marigold ribbon. "This certainly has been a benchmark occasion for Debonairs Pizza," commented Derrian Nadauld. "That Durban's celebrities came to raise a toast to our brand, is fantastic! We take our hats off to franchise owners, Chris Farrant and Gavyn Hough for putting in the effort and making the commitment to Debonairs Pizza. They are considered as being one of our most successful franchise teams and we're extremely proud to have them on board to launch their 9th and our 300th restaurant!"
Part of the days line-up of events included hosting 30 young players from development soccer teams in the area. They were given the opportunity to interact directly with a living legend of football, Doctor Khumalo, whilst enjoying delicious pizzas. Doc Khumalo arrived to a blast of Debonairs vuvuzela's and a sea of faces alight with awe and excitement. "It was 'goose-bump' stuff!" commented Doc Khumalo who also made it clear that pizza is a filling and balanced meal for everyone to enjoy! Following the Q & A session conducted with the aspiring Bafana-Bafanians, the teams went home with 300 pizzas to share with fellow team mates, as well as autographed footballs and an experience that is sure to last them a lifetime!
The new restaurant opening has been perfectly timed for the influx of soccer fans who will be able to watch soccer and eat pizza! They can enjoy the new Soccer Favourites range of pizzas from Debonairs Pizza, including pizzas aptly named the 'Defender', 'Striker' and 'Keeper'.
